5 Months

Jake is 5 months old! Time is flying by. Things are the same around here. Josh will finish his second semester of school in May and has an internship for the summer. I am still working and Jake is still going to school (daycare).

Here are two pictures...the first was taken February 15th and the second was taken April 18th. Just wanted to show you how much he has grown (or filled out)...

Jake had his four month checkup at the end of March and he was 25 inches long and 14 pounds. He is in the 50th percentile for both weight and height. We also got the ok to start cereal and solids. He likes the cereal, but loves the vegetables. He has had squash and carrots. Green beans will be next. He eats two jars (plastic containers...whatever you want to call them) every night.

Cereal is Yummy!

I love my veggies!

Jake went to see the Easter Bunny and wasn't even scared...I know, he is still young....hopefully it will be the same next year.

We went to Baton Rouge for the Easter weekend. We left Friday evening and Jake slept most of the way there. On Saturday, Josh played golf with his dad and Jake and I went to lunch with some of my friends from college, Joyce, her son Noah and Amy. After lunch we walked around the mall and Jake saw a LSU football jersey and screamed until I bought it for him. :) Ha!Ha! It is a little big for him now, but should fit perfectly for football season. On Saturday afternoon, my friend Michelle and her boyfriend Preston came over to Josh's parents' house and the men boiled crawfish. It was great. Jake had his first experience with crawfish and can't wait until he can eat some. On Easter, we went to church and then went to eat at White Oak Plantation. The food was great and we had a great time visiting with family. After we ate, we were all standing around the fountain on the plantation and Chef John Folse came over to say hi and played with Jake for a minute. For those that don't know who John Folse is, go here http://www.jfolse.com/. On Sunday afternoon, we went back to Josh's parents' house and visited with more family. We came back to Houston on Monday. Jake did ok on the trip, but got tired of sitting in his carseat. There was construction on I-10 and they had it down to one lane in some areas, so it took us a little longer than expected to get home, but that is par for the course for our trips to Baton Rouge. :) We have either been behind a wreck and/or driving through construction areas almost every time we have driven to Baton Rouge from Houston.

Jake got some cool sunglasses from the Easter Bunny!

Easter Nap!

That is all for now! As you all know, I haven't been doing so well with blogging everyday. Sometimes I don't have any ideas to blog about, but I have some things brewing, so check back within the week! Feel free to leave comments...just click the Comments button at the end of the blog.

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY!
Well, as you can tell, I haven't been posting everyday like I had intended to do, but hopefully I will be better in the future.
I had my surgery on February 27th and everything went well. I had to be at the hospital at 6:00am and I was out by 10:30am. My surgery took less than an hour...the rest of the time was pre and post op stuff. I was really sore the first several days after. I had a herniated bellybutton that the doctor fixed and that is what was the worst. For the first 2 or 3 days, I couldn't stand up straight. You don't realize what muscles you use to stand up until they have been messed with. I am so glad that my mom and grandmother were here to help with Jake....it is hard to feed a squirmy 3 month old when you are sore all over your belly. I would try to just hold him and he would start hitting my belly and I had to give him back to whoever was willing to take him....let me tell you, I had to twist their arm! :) Harry and Chris (Josh's parents) came to visit and help out too. They babysat for us while we went to the Houston Rodeo. It was our first time to go to this rodeo and we had a great time. We had great seats thanks to LAN (the company I work for) and saw the rodeo part and then Trace Adkins. We aren't big fans of his, but we stayed and listened to a few of his songs. Josh was laughing at me because I knew some of the words.....I know them from listening to the country radio stations. Trace Adkins has one of the deepest voices I have ever heard.
Jake is 4 months old now and doing great. He is cooing and babbling and loves to smile. We have heard him laugh once or twice, but are waiting for him to really learn how to do it. He will go to the doctor next week for his 4 month shots. I will be asking the doctor about giving him some rice cereal since he wants to eat every 2 1/2 to 3 hours. He does sleep for about 6 or 7 hours at a time at night, but he goes to bed so early that half of those hours are when I am cooking dinner and getting things done around the house. Jake also spits up and I read that cereal can sometimes help with that. If you have any thoughts, comments, suggestions on this, please feel free to comment or send me an email.

Hope everyone has a great St. Patrick's Day!

Kerri's Surgery

On Friday, February 27th, I will have surgery to remove my gallbladder. I am having the surgery because I have gallstones. Here is a link to a website with a great explanation of what/how/why, etc. http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/gallstones/#2
The surgery is outpatient and is being done laparoscopically.
My mom and grandmother will be here to help take care of Jake and Josh's Spring Break begins on Monday, March 1st. If I don't feel well enough to post on here myself, I will ask one of them to post an update. My mom and I are coming to realize that this is more common than we thought it was. I have had several friends and family members who have had this surgery. If you have had this done and would like to tell me about it, please feel free to send me an email or comment on this blog.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Burton Family blog. I decided that this is the easiest way to keep everyone updated on our family. I have good intentions of posting a blog everyday, but please don't hold me to it. :) I love the idea of being able to show Jake the blogs when he gets older...since most of them will probably be about him. I have a new email address ....... burton.kerri@gmail.com. I will eventually use this as my primary address, but if you forget and send an email to kwlsu2@aol.com, I will still receive it. Please save our blog address to your favorites and check back often. I promise to get some pictures on here soon.
